Like peering into a soul: fire and an icy core. That is the feeling I get from the prints used as part of Laitinen's F/W 2012 collection with photos by Chris Vidal being manipulated and used as print texture. This is the ultimate cardigan--not that we will need it in the US this winter (no matter what that groundhog saw) due to the unseasonable warmth. So, just crank the AC and chill in this this woven wonder 'round the house. I'm enjoying the leggings too, by the way. I do prefer the grey.

This is Alpha Sidibe--studio manager at Christian Louboutin--at his apartment in Paris with his collection of shoes designed by his boss. While I am not sure what to make of Louboutin's want of a copyright on the color "red" as it is used on the soles of his famous ladies' heels, I do know I thoroughly enjoy the footwear designer's use of studs on the many kicks in his men's line--as so nicely photographed by Ailine Liefeld on Freunde von Freunden HERE. It seems working in fashion has its perks.

Perhaps it reads a bit Mormon gone rogue--reinvention of the church: but Mormons are in right now, and I like the exciting acts of color and design that flare up in the Christian Lacroix Fall 2012 "Collage" collection. We all know that Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck likes to push forward--taking fashion to the most interesting places. That is what he has done once more with his Fall/Winter 2012 collection. He plays with prints and silhouette to give his suits duality. I enjoy the contrast, but wouldn't mind if he had decided to dedicate an entire suit to one of his lively prints--though centering those graphics does add a gravity that pulls you into what is, was, and could be. John Galliano: Fall/Winter 2012

John Galliano delivered a very gangster, military, and vintage thrill-seeker inspired Fall/Winter 2012 collection for Paris Fashion Week: in fact, the coats and jackets--along with the high-waisted belted accesorizing--really made the collection. But an interesting piece is his rendition of the tuxedo shirt: embellished with shimmering, emerald and blue jewels--reminds me of Minority Report. The question remains as to whether or not one should tie the bow-tie or leave it hanging for effect. Oh--and the metallic capped footwear is very nice, indeed. Alexis Mabille Fall/Winter 2012-13

From Paris Fashion week comes the latest Alexis Mabille collection. Like last year, Mabille has presented one of my favorite collections this season with a nice mix of prints, textures, colors, materials, and attitudes. The Mabille man is a tough dandy type this season. Some of the most interesting pants this season are these from the designer utilizing a quilted-like, scaling, application in both a softer and much edgier--leather--materials. Reversing the Suit: Shoot by Oscar Correcher

I enjoy the styling concept behind this shoot: almost a deconstruction of a suit. Adding the denim jacket-vest over top, I think, is a fantastic idea. I'm also down with experimenting with the cutting out of the upper-pec/shoulder regions of the shirt, along with the turning inside-out of the suit jacket--Fresh Prince style: it's very flame reminiscent at the bottom edges. Burberry Prorsum accessorizes their men with an edge for A/W 2012--as seen with the studded gloves that I immensely enjoy. I'm also fond of the graphic sweater as well as the coat below. But it is the juxtaposition between the unexpectedly spiked hands and the classy yet youthful refinement of the clothing that I enjoy most.

The collections from Milan continue to be shared, and Bottega Veneta has one of the most enjoyable pieces thus far: the jacket seen here demonstrates a effort by BV to play with the structures of suits--in this instance overlaying the silhouette with a thin, mostly blue, veneer. I think the idea works even better off the runway as seen in the behind-the-scenes snapshot by Sonny Vandevelde for Hint Magazines fantastic slideshow featuring collections by BV, Burberry, D&G, Emporio Armani, Jil Sander, John Varvatos, Missoni, and V Westwood. What a difference fresh eyes make: looking back on Alexis Mabille's f/w 2011-12 collection, I would actually like to have a pair of these pants. I'm enjoying the lacy tightness here: somewhat like a Victorian punk--a more vibrant goth--but very contemporary. Unconditional is a bit of an unconventional brand as demonstrated by the pants below: I enjoy the triangular seam at the crotch and don't find it at all off-putting. I'm also enjoying the accessorizing using the spiked holster--and the slicked hair (not to mention the model's facial accessories). The beaded detail on the lapel of the sleeveless jacket is nice as well.

What I enjoy about this clip--other than the setting along a country road--is that you can sense a different mood for each look: a unique story that corresponds to the image and feel of each outfit that incorporates ideas about why this man is running down the road, who--if anyone/thing is he chasing, where did he come from, why is he there???? New story, new character for each look. The film was done for issue 11 of Hercules Mag.

As part of the gray and black palate (there are some pops of color, like a nice brilliant blue) of the Jeroen van Tuyl Fall 2011 collection is this "shattered" waistcoat made of leather, but with an onyx-like appearance. It's as if someone went for your gut with a sledgehammer--I'm enjoying it and find it very inspiring. The "shattered" motif finds its way into several of the pattern choices in the collection as well. But it is this piece with its destructive gleam that leaves the greatest impression. Simon Spurr has delivered the most enjoyable collection for New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 that I have seen thus far. What I enjoy is the use of mixed materials--creating a vibrancy--and the color striped pieces. Oh--and I cannot leave out the knee high boots. This is a guy who spends lots of time alone--a bit solitary. I enjoy this photo because of its softer side, yet there are dark forces working underneath this pose--defensive yet vulnerable as the wind hits his face. I'm also enjoying the way the coat rests around the sides, and the exposed ankles. Not a pose you see a lot in men's fashion. This was taken by Andreas Öhlund for Café.

Inez and Vinoodh deliver ads for the Ports 1961 F/W 2011 collection and I'm enjoying the vintage feel that the pieces give yet with that utter Ports crispness. The accessorizing in the first picture is subtle yet makes an impact with the gloves and moreover the clutch/wallet that is leached at the wrist of the model. I've also had to include another look from the Ports 1961 S/S 2012 collection which features the use of a very vibrant blue as with the ensemble below. When I first saw a couple looks from the AMI Spring 2012 collection, I had this intense sensation that everything would be alright. Pretensions aside--these are clothes that you can actually wear, feel comfortable in, but without having to give up on a sense of creativity in dress. I think the line, so far, seems to live up to the credo of "real clothes for real men." While these pics find models like Nicolas Ripoll wearing Ami pieces, the wears are truly for an everyday man--or I might say a guy who likes his clothes to work and speak for themselves without him having to fret over them so much, leaving room for other pursuits. Ami is a new line from designer Alexandre Mattiussi.

I've always wanted a matador's jacket--traje de luces (suit of lights)--of my own. I suppose there is something slightly romantic about bullfighting and the life of toreros that I find appealing. Matteo Molinari's Fall/Winter 2011 collection takes some inspiration from the "suit of lights" that toreros wear in the ring--with the high-waist and short jacket. I'm also enjoying the slim black tie. Of course, Molinari has simplified the tradition with use of black and white as well as the idea of gender lines--but the Spanish influence is there. Milan Fashion Week--Moncler Gamme Bleu Spring 2012

It was recently fashion week in Milan and I must say that I believe that the most enjoyable show--most interesting--seems to have been, perhaps, Thom Browne's work for Moncler Gamme Bleu SS 2012. The interest could have been due in part to the fencing motif--regardless, many of the sporting pieces are very enjoyable. My favorites are below including the use of stripes, blue, the hang of the longer jackets, and the fantatic short jacket with the side zips and beige pants. Max Chernitsov is just cool--his designs offer moments of understated extravagance, and he is not afraid to take some risks. I enjoy the Eurasian vibe I get from his SS11 collection--many of the gold details, particularly the lapels, remind me of seaweed papers dipped in gold; not to mention the styling of the jacket paired with the billowing pants (almost skirt like). The floral inspired cut-outs on the tanks are also nice--offering a soft masculinity and contrast to the more somber hues.
