Sean Suen
What I enjoy about Sean Suen pieces is the level of unexpected flourishes added (like the zippable bottom on the second coat below). I think the squared-off necklines are fantastic, and I also enjoy the tacked on print seen on the jacket below. The shape of all the pieces is great--an easy and casual bell shape in the coats and jackets, and the boxy jacket/vest with the asymmetrical zipper. Check out more of the Sean Suen SS 2014 collection HERE and see past collections HERE on the designer's site.

Candy from Tokyo
From the Candy runway show in Shibuya, Tokyo come this really great camo coat. I enjoy the closed collar and the fact that it's in grayscale. The show also featured some great masks. Check it all out HERE on TokyoDandy.

Some Favorites from Spring/Summer 2014: Thom Browne and Givenchy
Some favorites from the Spring/Summer collections:
I’ve delayed commenting on both the Spring/Summer 2014
collections from Thom Browne and Givenchy mainly because it took some time for
me to sort out just what I thought. I knew that both collections struck a
chord, but I wasn’t sure how or why they resonated; I keep looking at both
collections and have yet to grow tired.
With Browne’s collection, I believe it must be the sense of
strength of the pieces, which take so many militaristic references and twist
them, when juxtaposed to a high gloss presentation of face that grabs my
attention—it’s like Robert Palmer Girl-meets Grace Jones-meets Michael Jackson.
This character is simply one I cannot shake, it’s so strong. Several of the
pieces themselves aren’t very functional, like the strange crotch additions and
the oversized coats, but many more can be incorporated as statement pieces.
But, again, it’s the styling and aggressiveness of the pieces that I can’t keep from being drawn to. See more
HERE.
In regards to Givenchy, the tribal influence that is crossed
with digital, and even analog, technological inspired prints, which also have insect-like forms, keep me thinking.
The pieces read future, retro, and ancient all at the same time, and that’s an
intriguing idea in regards to clothes to be worn by today’s younger men. I’m
also usually partial to face painting, and the make-up on the models captures
tribal-meets-digital very nicely. See more HERE

Tom Rebl Fall/Winter 2013
Tom Rebl takes us on an excursion through a mystical, and smokey, realm of slight whimsy in his Fall/Winter 2013 Lookbook. The Tom Rebl man seems to be a traveler you run into in a dark wood, and you can't tell if you should be scared or happy to have his company. I'm enjoying the prints--both the irregular shapes seen on the black+silver suit as well as the floral number. See more HERE on ThisHeartsOnFire.

NudeMM Fall/Winter 2013
Masahiko Maruyama's NudeMM Fall/Winter 2013 collection offers a great array of shapes and volume, and also a little bit of texture. There is something about the way these pieces rest that help give a sense of character to what might otherwise be dull pieces--but these pieces are not dull at all; there's something hidden in the lines, something understated, yet pretty deep. I get a touch of the nomad, with a touch of the philosopher, and a hint of the Middle East. See for yourself HERE on ThisHeartsOnFire.

Custo Barcelona Fall/Winter 2013
I always enjoy it when I take a second look at a collection, and see it in better depth and detail. That's what has happened with the latest from Custo Barcelona. I didn't flat out hate the looks and pieces the first time, but it took a while before it clicked. I think such a state might make for a good collection; it takes time to understand really good, and complicated pieces. The pieces in the Custo Barcelona collection are diverse in color, texture, cut, and print--and the prints are wild. Yet when paired together, it all works to deliver an idea: one the is culturally diverse in part, and yet delivers a military essence coupled with classicism. Eclectic. There is something forward-thinking here, and I believe that as the weeks and months pass, I'll grow to enjoy this collection even more so. See it all HERE.

Allan Vos 2013
This, to me, reads historical futurism. I'm enjoying these pieces by Allan Vos for his latest collection: just recently seen at Amsterdam Fashion Week. The collection works nicely in the outdoors setting--estate vibe. And I enjoy the cut and asymmetrical fold seen in both the short and long jackets. Styled by Juan Velazquez Caceres and photographed by Martijn Senders. See more HERE on Fashionisto.

John Richmond F/W 2013
John Richmond has a way for designing cool without trying too hard--as it should be. That's the case with the designer's Fall/Winter 2013 collection. I enjoy the leather accents and the embellishments added to the jackets that give a feeling of strength and intrigue . See more HERE.

Burberry Prorsum Fall/Winter 2013
It's really hard to beat a Burberry coat, particularly the trench. I'm always drawn toward a military form, but I also enjoy the contrast that is made between the classic hues and the animal prints seen on the shoes. I also like the more greatly exaggerated waist on several of the coats Check out more of the Burberry Prorsum F/W 2013 collection from Milan HERE on Fashionisto.

Kenzo A/W 2013
Finally. Something that has gotten me excited this season in Men's collections. If you haven't been following what's been happening in London for the Men's collection, see highlights HERE. However, what I have enjoyed most has come from the Pitti Uomo in Florence: Kenzo A/W 2013 collection. The prints on the coats are not only colorful, but they are ethereal in a way: featuring cloudscapes in a way that is reminiscent of Japanese Ukiyo-e. I'm also enjoying the playful way the faux-tie on the blue suit is "broken" almost midway. See more of the collection HERE. Seems like Pitti might beat out London's collections this year as far as getting my attention.

Baartsman and Siegel Blue Coat
This coat is worn by the lucky Style Salvage gent, designed by Baartsman and Siegel for their AW 2012 collection "Milk Tray Man." Of course, the color is what I enjoy the most as I'm magnetically attracted to blue. But I am also enjoying the silver zippers. In fact, I don't believe I've seen a zipper up the front of a long coat like it is here; particularly how it stops at the bottom of the collar--very cool and ever so slightly asymmetric.

Mohsin Ali Autumn/Winter 2012
I always enjoy a graphic that is used smartly. That is what Mohsin Ali has done with his AW12 collection. Inspired by Bauhaus design ideals, his collection utilizes a strong triangle as the starting point for this experiment in prints. I think it works wonderfully on the coat below. See more HERE on Style Salvage along with a great write-up and quotes from the designer, himself.

"Masculine Mystery" in Dansk
Serving up Rhythm Nation realness--and I'm loving it. This is a shot by Stefan Zschernitz for Dansk Magazine, featuring pieces by Prada. What a coat: the waist right where I like it. The silhouette, including the hair, is right on with this look. See more of the shoot HERE on Morphosis.
