Gitman Vintage: Konichiwa

Gitman Vintage offers up this creative take on camo: taking Japanese kimono and woodblock art inspirations and compiling a pseudo-camo print as part of their Konichiwa line for the most current collection.  I enjoy the thoughtfulness behind the piece, and it does read camo from afar; however, up close you can see the ukiyo-e vibe. Check out more prints included in Gitman Bros. Spring/Summer 2013 Collection HERE.

Victor Dzenk Men's Summer 2013

Victor Dzenk is not afraid of color and/or outlandish prints. His Summer 2013 collection offers radical tropical vibes with pieces, including swimwear, that make it seem that, when worn, you are living within a highly-graphic and lush jungle. You might also check out Dzenk's Fall 2013 collection in which the prints and overall tone is less tropic and more space-age insect armor. See more of the Victor Dzenk Summer 2013 men's collection HERE on Morphosis.

"Touche" ---FantasticsMag

Alexander Beer shoots a fencing themed story for FantasticsMag featuring a shirt by British designer, Joseph Turvey. I always wondered: who is this guy on his shirts? See the rest HERE. And behind-the-scenes shots HERE on Beer's blog,

Fun w/ fashion by Acne and Shake Appeal

What I enjoy most about these pieces are their playful yet cool qualities. This boot by Acne, the Zweig, is the kind of piece that generates double takes. Many times, a hybrid idea such as this can lose it's charm, but these boots retain style in addition to the utilitarian component (they also come in dark brown).

The shirt by Shake Appeal, as part of their Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, says it all; it's a geeky-cheeky. I'm digging the overall look as well.

10/10--"Only Young Once!" collection

When I think of designs that work to push the envelope while still being quite wearable, this is what I have in mind. 10/10 (ten out of ten) collection "Only Young Once!." I'm instinctively drawn to the geometric, asymmetric, as well as symmetric shapes and details . Yet, even while creating layers of interest via stacked and exaggerated affixes, the pieces aren't "bulky" or too big: they retain a streamlined, fitted feel and look. The pieces and looks have the blend I enjoy between edgy and urbane; past and future. This collection is simply speaking my language--I want these pieces for the stage, or perhaps as street armor. See more of the 10/10 collection HERE.

New Designer--Marta Torres

Marta Torres is evidently a student of Spanish designer, Ana Locking. This collection is the product of the class. But what I enjoy most is the collar on several of the tops. The accentuation via the choker-like piece is nice and it even looks as if the collar itself is detachable. The overall effect of the collection is one of a painterly, abstract take on a contemporary reflection on what a 60's vision of the future might have looked like. For me, I am a fan of the top button done-up with a piece of strong jewelry to highlight and embellish the conservative gesture. See more of Marta Torres' collection HERE.

Christopher Kane Spring 2013

The first time I say Christopher Kane's Spring 2013 collection I pretty much glanced over it. Perhaps I wasn't in a good mood, or something. Whatever the case, taking a second look recently, I am pleased by the designer's playfulness. In fact, seeing the Chelsea boots made me happier. What would make them even better--above and beyond the vibrant patch of color--would be the option to swap out multiple colors on the boot's side panels. I'm also enjoying the brush strokes used on the button up and tank--you can even find the strokes used on swimming gear. See more of the collection HERE on Style.com with a blurb from Tim Blanks.

Marcelo Burlon--County of Milan T-Shirt collection

Marcelo Burlon travels a lot and has an eclectic background--this has been fused into a collection of t-shirts. Burlon says, "I like the idea of putting together iconographic elements from different cultures that are related to me." I, for one, enjoy the richness of the images. See more of the County of Milan T-Shirt collection HERE. Learn more about Marcelo Burlon HERE in a DazedDigital interview. You can also check-out Burlon's blog HERE

Asher Levine Spring/Summer 2013

Cruise is the name given to the latest collection by Asher Levine. And this is my favorite look from his lookbook--very dark antihero. The "hero" effect is created by a piece Levine has designed that is more-or-less an extra-extra-long shirt but with split tails. See more of the lookbook at Levine's site HERE.

Look from Lonely Robot in a Wasteland

Great look from Lonely Robot in a Wasteland blogger. I enjoy the metallic hint on the shirt collar--Zara--and the belt and sunglasses help round out the leisurely traveler feel. See more details and snapshots of the look HERE.

Andrea Pompilio Spring/Summer 2013

From Italy comes Andrea Pompilio's S/S 2013 collection. The lines are what I am enjoying most: the way they start in the middle of the shirt (as well as across the back), but are carried down as an unexpected detail on the inside of the pant legs. I love the surprise. The details are even carried down to the slip-on shoes with the hint of color. Check out the video (below) of the Milan show. See more of the collection HERE.

Auslander S/S 2013

From Brazil, label Auslander presents some glimmering details as part of their Spring/Summer 2013 collection, including Prince Pelayo (of KateLovesMe fame, of course) walking the runway. Actually, the styling and feel of many of the looks reminds me much of Pelayo's own style--not sure if there is any connection. It's a very bright, young, and slightly edgy collection--the overall styling is what gives it life. My favorite piece might just be the golden shorts below. I also enjoy the metallic details on the collars as well as the crystalline accessories. See more of the collection, including Pelayo, HERE on Fucking Young?

Laitinen Fall/Winter 2012

Like peering into a soul: fire and an icy core. That is the feeling I get from the prints used as part of Laitinen's F/W 2012 collection with photos by Chris Vidal being manipulated and used as print texture. I'm enjoying the pant with its semi-detached belt loops and mini-window showing just a bit of the tucked shirt. See more of the collection HERE on Fashionisto.

Christian Lacroix Fall 2012--"Collage"

Perhaps it reads a bit Mormon gone rogue--reinvention of the church: but Mormons are in right now, and I like the exciting acts of color and design that flare up in the Christian Lacroix Fall 2012 "Collage" collection. Watch the video on the Lacroix site HERE. I'm enjoying the simple cross motif as well as the vividness offered by the bright red pants. It's enough to get Joseph Smith revved-up See more of the collection HERE on Homotography.

Alexis Mabille Fall/Winter 2012-13

From Paris Fashion week comes the latest Alexis Mabille collection. Like last year, Mabille has presented one of my favorite collections this season with a nice mix of prints, textures, colors, materials, and attitudes. The Mabille man is a tough dandy type this season. Some of the most interesting pants this season are these from the designer utilizing a quilted-like, scaling,  application in both a softer and much edgier--leather--materials. I enjoy the pointed boots too. See the rest of the collection HERE on Homotography.

Bon Abstract Combinations

What I am enjoying most about this editorial are the stellar combinations of print, shape, and texture. Photographed by Andreas E. G. Larsson with styling by Stevie Westgarth for Bon magazine. The red and orange in the first pic (jacket and turtleneck) are thanks to Mugler. The second pic--which I enjoy for its off kilter angle--features Prada color blocking, and J.W. Anderson paisley. Simon Spurr--Spring 2012

Simon Spurr has delivered the most enjoyable collection for New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 that I have seen thus far. What I enjoy is the use of mixed materials--creating a vibrancy--and the color striped pieces. Oh--and I cannot leave out the knee high boots. All together, the stripes, mixed materials, and overall sheen create a very Rock&Roll inspired vibe--just check out the cut on the leather jacket. See more of the collection HERE on Fashionisto.
